Somalis result from a genetic mutation in Abyssinians resulting in long hair. All Somalis and Abyssinians are descended from one kitten named Zulu that a soldier brought to England from Alexandria, Egypt. Somalis are prone to dental problems from excessive inbreeding. Somalis are also called Fox Cats because of their bushy tails. Somalis shed less than most long haired cats.
